Clear materials are a great way to add unique dimension and style to your projects, and you can cut them out and use them as is or personalize them further with permanent pens and StazOn inkpads. Girlfriends

“Want to customize your overlays to coordinate with your project and add your own personality?” Shauna asks. “Try using a Permapaque® or Slick Writer™ pen (each available in tons of versatile colors) to color in areas of your overlays or to handwrite directly onto the overlays. Since overlays are non-porous, the ink from regular pens and markers will not stick to the surface of the overlay, so you’ll always want to make sure you’re using a permanent pen. When coloring in clear areas of your overlay, turn the overlay over and color onto the back side so you don’t end up coloring over and covering up any of the opaque colors printed on the overlay.”
Supplies:
- Paper Pizazz® Retro sarapapers™: Brown dotted, brown stripes, lime textured and pink textured with brown border papers
- Paper Pizazz® Clear & Frosted Overlays for Scrapbooking
- Cardmaker’s™ Citrus Ribbons: Pink polka dot grosgrain ribbon
- jewel brads: Dark pink brads
- jewel mini brads: Dark pink mini brads
- lime brads

- black cardstock
- white cardstock
- pink Permapaque® or Slick Writer™ pen
- black ink pad
- 1/16” hole punch
- Zots™

Instructions:
- Use the brown dotted paper as the background. Cut a 1/2” wide strip of brown stripes paper with the stripes running horizontally. Glue the strip down the right edge of the background paper and ink the edge with black.
- Cut out the filmstrip border overlay. Add one photo behind each frame of the filmstrip. Mount each long edge of the filmstrip on the pink portion of the pink textured with brown border paper, trimming the paper even with the edges of the filmstrip border. Lay the filmstrip down the right side of the page, just overlapping the edge of the brown stripes paper strip. Add dark pink and lime mini brads to the dividing lines between each frame on the filmstrip, as shown. Use a pink pen to journal on top of each frame on the filmstrip overlay.
- Mat a horizontal photo on black cardstock, trimming the mat to 1/16”. Mat again on lime textured paper, trimming the mat to 1/2”. Mat again on black cardstock, trimming the mat to 1/16”. Mat the left edge of the photo on brown stripes paper with the stripes running horizontally, trimming the mat to 1/2” and inking the edge with black. Glue the matted photo in the top left corner of the page. Cut out the “say cheese” overlay and attach it down the left side of the photo with a dark pink mini brad in each end. Computer journal the words “Girlfriends” and “are” onto white cardstock, then crop to small rectangles. Mat each word on black cardstock, trimming the mats to 1/16”. Cut out the “so much fun” overlay. Attach the journaling and overlay in the bottom left corner of the photo as shown, using lime and dark pink mini brads to secure the journaling to the page. Use a pink pen to journal the name and year directly onto the photo.
- Cut out the “joyful” overlay and use a pink pen to write onto the back of the overlay, coloring in the letter “F”. Mount on lime textured paper, trimming the paper even with the edges of the overlay. Mat on black cardstock, trimming the mat to 1/16”.
- Cut out the “happy” overlay and mount on the pink portion of the pink textured with brown border paper, trimming the paper even with the edges of the overlay. Use dark pink and green brads to attach the “joyful” and “happy” overlays at varying angles in the bottom left corner of the page, as shown. Cut two 3 1/2” lengths of pink polka dot grosgrain ribbon and trim the tails at an angle. Tie a knot in the center of each ribbon length, then use a Zot™ to attach one knot to the right end of the “joyful” overlay and one knot to the left end of the “happy” overlay.
Journey In Style

“When accenting your journaling with word fragments, it’s always a good idea to print out a test copy of your journaling before printing it onto the paper you wish you use on your layout,” Paris advises. “As you write your computer journaling, just leave spaces in the journaling that are large enough to add word fragment overlays or cut-outs. By printing your journaling onto scratch paper first, you can arrange all your word fragment pieces on the scratch paper to make sure they will actually fit in the journaling when you print out the final copy. If your spacing is off, just make any necessary adjustments and print out another test copy, just to be sure (better safe than sorry!). Once all the word fragment pieces fit nicely into your journaling, print the journaling onto your final paper choice and crop to fit on your layout, then glue the word fragments in place.”

with blue floral border and blue textured paper plus tags
• Paper Pizazz® Clear & Frosted Overlays for Scrapbooking
• Attachments™ Heritage Ribbons: Tan grosgrain,
tan/ivory striped and brown gingham ribbons
• brown ink pad
• Zots™
• glue stick
Instructions:
- Use the brown with blue floral border paper as the background and arrange the paper so the border runs up the left edge. Mat two 5 1/2”x3 1/2” horizontal photos on blue textured paper, trimming the mats to 3/16” and inking the edges with brown. Glue one photo 1/4” in from the top edge and 1/4” in from the border on the tan portion of the background paper. Glue the other photo 4” down from the top edge and 1/4” in from the right edge of the page.
- Computer journal on blue textured paper, leaving space in between some of the words to add word fragments. Crop the journaling to an 8 1/2”x3 1/2” rectangle, leaving extra room on the left edge, and ink the edges with brown. Cut out word fragment overlays and glue them to the journaling block to fill in the spaces you left. Cut a 4 1/2” length of tan grosgrain ribbon and wrap it vertically around the left end of the journaling, wrapping the ends around the top and bottom edges of the journaling to secure on the back. Cut one 5 1/5” length each of brown gingham, tan grosgrain and tan/ivory striped ribbons and trim the tails of each at an angle. Tie a knot in the center of each ribbon length and use a Zot™ to secure the knots down the ribbon length on the journaling with the tails pointing to the left.
- Cut out the large brown and blue tag. Cut out the “journey” overlay and glue it across the tag. Glue the tag horizontally in the top right corner of the page so the tab overlaps the top photo. Cut out the small brown and aqua tag. Computer journal the phrase “In Style” onto blue textured paper, then crop to a small rectangle, ink the edges brown and glue to the small tag. Glue the small tag at an angle with the tab overlapping the tab on the large tag. Cut a 3 1/2” length of tan grosgrain ribbon and trim the tails at an angle. Tie a knot in the center of the ribbon and use a Zot™ to secure the knot over the tab of the small tag.
- Cut out the medium aqua and brown tag. Cut a 2 1/2” length of tan grosgrain ribbon and wrap it around the center of the tag, folding the ends around the edges of the tag to secure on the back. Computer journal the names onto blue textured paper then crop to a small rectangle and ink the edges with brown. Glue the journaling over the dark blue square on the tag. Glue the tag vertically centered between the border and the second photo, as shown. Cut a 3 1/2” length of tan grosgrain ribbon and trim the tails at an angle. Tie a knot in the center of the ribbon and use a Zot™ to secure the knot over the tab of the tag.
