Fold-It Flips & Fold-Back Swirls Templates

Remember the super popular Paper Pizazz® Fold-It Swirls template? I absolutely love that template, and apparently I'm not the only one. In fact, the Fold-It Swirls template sold so incredibly well that Hot Off The Press just released two brand-new templates following the same unique folding concept: Fold-It Flips and Fold-Back Swirls. Each new template features 6 brand-new designs (that's 12 new patterns in all!) that are versatile enough for any paper craft.

My favorite part about these new templates? Like all the Paper Pizazz® templates, these two new templates couldn't be easier to use. Simply place the template on the back of any paper, trace your choice of pattern lightly with a pencil and cut out the shape with a pair of sharp scissors. Then, just follow the instructions on the template to fold the shape into a very unique, very cool folded flower embellishment.

So what's different about these new templates? Fold-It Flips actually does double duty. Once folded, each of the six shapes can be flipped over to reveal a totally different shape! For example, the top of the Starflower shape is a sweet five-petal flower...flip the shape over to reveal a cool star pattern on the back of the flower!

Notice the white pinwheel in the center of these Lily Pad flowers? Just one extra little fold creates layered-looking embellishments that are full of contrast.
And what about Fold-Back Swirls? The patterns on the Fold-Back Swirls template feature one extra step: An extra little fold that creates finished embellishments that appear to have two layers. The Double-Petal shape is a large flower with a smaller flower in the center! This template works well with paper that is patterned on one side and white on the other, or with papers that have a different pattern on both sides. When you create that extra little fold that makes these shapes so special, you'll be revealing the opposite side of the paper (the white side or the pattern on the backside), so the smaller shape in the center of the embellishment will stand out perfectly.

I sanded the edges of these cool Petal Wheels, then added a series of four down the side of this mini album page for an eye-catching handmade border.
I love the versatility that these templates offer. Since I'm using the templates with paper, I can alter the folded embellishments with ink or sand the edges with sandpaper to make sure that all the folded petals stand out. Distressing the folded shapes is a great way to rough them up a bit for use on masculine projects, too! I also like to add a brad to the center of the flowers for a little extra dimension and to make sure all the folded petals stay in place. And these templates aren't just for paper! I love creating folded embellishments out of vellum, too. When the vellum is folded over itself, the color of the vellum becomes darker in the folded areas and offers interesting depth to the embellishment.

And I love all the things I can do with my little folded creations! I especially like using the embellishments as page borders. Using the design element of repetition, I like to add a series of folded flowers down the side of a page or card or cluster a few shapes together in a corner. Want an idea that always gets countless "ooo"s and "ahh"s from my friends? Glue lengths of green ribbon to your project to create stems and leaves, then add the folded flowers to the top of the ribbons to create a bouquet!

Whether your customers are scrapbookers or card makers, beginners or experts, if they're paper crafting addicts like me, they'll love the creative possibilities of the new Fold-It Flips and Fold-Back Swirls templates.
