Journaling the Past
Heritage photos are often the most difficult to journal aboutespecially if you know only a little about the people, places and events in the photo. Here, Susan included the facts she knew in her main journaling, then decorated the rest of the page with Embossed Paper Tinted Words Cut-Outs™ and computer journaled vellum captions. Susan says, I love how the tinted words and the pastel floral paper enhance the sepia tones of the photos. As a special touch, I added pink chalk to the torn vellum and paper complement the vintage feel of the page. Copying and resizing the smaller heritage photos keeps the page balanced.
Another tip: Susan attached the tinted words with foam tape, placing them underneath or alongside the photos.

Journaling the Moments
Not just your everyday name, date, place journaling: Shauna used a definition, slide mounts and Tape-Style Fragments to journal her thoughts and wishes for the girls in the photo. I enlarged one photo that I wanted to be the main focus, then I punched out square portions of the other photos, highlighting each of the girls, Shauna says. I shrank the other photo and placed tape-style fragments on each end to create a filmstrip effect. The Tape-Style Fragments in crisp black and white accent the tones in the photos.

Journaling the Trip
Fragments make an artsy journaling technique on album pages. Here, Arlene used copper fragments to highlight the misty gray tones of these scenery photos. I wanted to use some of the photos that showcased highlights of my trip to England for an adventure/travel page, says Arlene. The fragments were just what I needed to express my feelings, and they made a really fun border, too!
Arlene created a simple collage at the bottom of her layout, and the collage-style border of fragments is a perfect complement. I like using metal embellishments on my page, she says, But sometimes a lot of metal can result in a very thick or heavy page. Thats why I like to use the embossed metallic accentsit gives me a touch of metallic without the weight or possible abrasion.
