Snow
By Shauna Berglund-Immel
I love this fun, festive background paper, but I was a little worried about using it with a photo that has light edges, Shauna says. The solution? A dark photo mat. I chose a dark blue mat that coordinates with the clothing in the photo. The blue mat ensures that the white edges of the photo will not get lost on the background paper, making my photo and my memories really stand out.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Use the dark blue cardstock as the background. Trim 1/8 off each side of the white with stars paper, then glue it centered on the dark blue cardstock. Cut out the let it snow and happy holidays ribbon fragments and glue them end to end, about 3/4 in from the right edge of the page. Add one white snowflake brad to the center to cover up the seam between the two fragments.
- Mat the photo on dark blue cardstock and trim to 1/16. Glue at an angle toward the left side of the page. Add one white snowflake brad to the top right corner of the photo. Cut out the s, n, o and w tiles and glue them vertically down the top left edge of the photo. Cut out the peace definition artwork and glue it over the right edge of the photo as shown.
- Cut out the winter and peace ribbon fragments and glue them end to end, flush against the bottom edge of the photo mat. Add one white snowflake brad to the center to cover up the seam between the two fragments. Use a black pen to journal the name and date onto the white with stars paper along the left and right edges of the photo.
Family
By LeNae Gerig
The holidays are all about family. Want to create a cool, retro feel with your older family photos? LeNae asks. Try scanning your color photos and printing them in black and white. Not only will this give you that retro feel youre looking for, it also makes choosing paper a lot simpler. With a black and white photo, you wont have to worry about any yellowing that has occurred over the years, or about odd color combinations or clothing patterns that are present in the photo.
Supplies:
Instructions:
- Use the yellow with squares paper as the background. Cut a 3x8 piece of brown striped paper so the stripes run horizontally, then glue it about 3/4 in from the right side of the page.
- Mat a small photo on brown dotted paper, trimming the top, left and right sides of the mat to 1/4 and the bottom to 7/8. Cut a 3/8 wide strip of brown striped paper with the stripes running vertically. Glue it centered across the bottom of the brown dotted mat, then trim the edges even with the edges of the mat. Mat again on orange textured paper, trimming the mat to 1/16. Cut out the family ribbon fragment and use foam mounting tape to attach it centered on the striped paper strip underneath the photo. Glue the photo centered about 1 1/4 in from the right side of the page.
- Cover a standard slide mount with brown striped paper. Cover a circular mini slide mount with brown dotted paper. Cut a small piece of orange textured paper and glue it behind the window of the mini slide mount, then add one gold heart brad to the window. Arrange the standard slide mount so the window is vertical, then tuck the left corner of the mini slide mount in the window of the standard slide mount and glue down. Cut a 6 length of ivory grosgrain ribbon and tie it into a shoestring bow. Use a Zot to secure the bow in the bottom left corner of the standard slide mount window.
- Computer journal onto ivory cardstock and crop, leaving 2 1/2 of extra space at the top. Mat the journaling on orange textured paper and trim the mat to 1/16. Glue the matted journaling centered to the left of the photo. Use foam mounting tape to attach the slide mounts in the extra space above the journaling.
