Susan's Pick: Cardmaker's™ Slide Mount Collections

I love the three new slide mount collections from the Cardmaker’s™ line— the Jumbo, Large Square and Large Circular.

Besides being safe for scrapbooking, these paper slide mounts don’t add bulk, weight, or rough edges to your projects. They’re ideal for highlighting words, quotes, journaling or embellishments. The simple shapes are easy to work with and it’s easy to make them look different, depending on the treatment applied to them.

Here’s one of my favorite ways to use a slide mount: I cover it with paper, trimming around both inner and outer edges with an X-acto® knife. I then cover a blank card front with coordinating paper, and cut a window in the center of the card front. The slide mount gets glued to over the window to frame it. Glue an embellishment to the inside of the card so it shows through the front window and you have an instant focal point for your card.

Slide mounts can be used singly or as a double. When I break a double slide mount at the perforation, I smooth the perforated edge slightly with a small piece of sandpaper. To use them attached, I like to cover them with paper and add a photo to one window, line the other window with paper and add a name or journaling.

There are lots of ways to dress up slide mounts—besides covering them with paper or vellum, you can chalk or ink them, or spritz them with walnut ink . I like to line the opening with vellum, then add an embellishment to the center. I also like to stamp words on or adhere word fragments to the edges. Another favorite is to make a tiny book using slide mounts as the cover pieces. They can be bound with ribbon or fiber through eyelets at the left or top edges. The book could contain quotes, wishes, or funny quips that your child has said and you’ve written down.

As you can see, slide mounts are one of my most versatile paper crafting supplies. I could play with them all day—fortunately, some days I can!
